Welcome

The Ottawa International Walking Festival, 22 & 23 October 2011 is organized by and support walking and Volkssporting Clubs in the Ottawa Region. Volkssporting Clubs organize walks through-out the Ottawa Region as well as provincially, nationally and internationally. Volkssport Events are good for the body and soul by encouraging outdoor physical activity and interpersonal goodwill. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.

Challenge yourself and set an example in your community!

Our walks are non-competitive, yet provide much in the areas of physical fitness, social activity and unsuspected health benefits. Walking just 3 or 4 times a week for 60 minutes at a time is enough to keep one fit and healthy. Walking offers the least negative impact on our body for the greatest return at the lowest cost. Study after study show that a reasonable walking program can produce a substantial decrease in the incidence and severity of such health problems as among others: obesity, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, depression, arthritis, osteoporosis, colorectal cancer and breast cancer.

The Festivals encourage individuals or groups who wish to use any of the walking events as a means to raise money for the registered charity of their choice to do so by using the Running Room online donations form.

All events start at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre in Britannia Park.
